Třebíč – Eight suppliers are interested in the contract for the renovation of Třebíč's Karlovo Square, which is expected to cost around 200 million crowns according to preliminary estimates. They have applied in the first round of the tender process. The city hall intends to select the winner in the second round through an auction. Irini Martakidisová, the city spokesperson, told ČTK. The two-year renovation is set to begin in mid-September.
The evaluation committee of the tender has now contacted the interested parties with requests to supplement their submitted offers. "They must supplement them by August 11; only then will the date of the auction be established," said Martakidisová. She expects it could take place around August 20.
The proposal for the transformation of the approximately two-hectare square was prepared by the Brno-based Atelier R.A.W. It includes new paving, parking areas, greenery, furnishings, and the return of water features to the square. The original fountains will be replaced by a pair of new ones. The city announced an architectural competition for one of them two years ago. The Prague studio H3T architekti s. r. o. won. Its fountain takes the form of a delicate circle almost levitating above the square, where a stream of water forms the wall of the fountain. It is designed to adorn the western part of the square.
The reconstruction of Karlovo Square has been intensively prepared by Třebíč for the past five years in connection with the need to replace the utility networks beneath the square. Preparatory work has already begun. It is also related to traffic restrictions in the square, from where public transport stops were temporarily moved on August 1. They have been replaced by stops within walking distance from the square on Vítězslava Nezvala and Smila Osovského streets.
