Třebíč – Třebíč has selected a contractor for the repair of Karlovo náměstí, who offered the lowest price in the auction. Bidders still have a period for appeals. If no one appeals, a two-year repair project worth approximately 133 million crowns will begin in mid-September. The estimated price of the contract was nearly 200 million crowns. This was stated today by Mayor Pavel Pacal (For Třebíč).
"Tomorrow this contract will be confirmed by the second investor, which is the Union of Waterworks and Sewage. Then a fifteen-day period for potential appeals will run, as stipulated by the Public Procurement Act. After that, we firmly believe, the contract will be signed," said Pacal.
The lowest bid in the two-round competition was offered by the Company for the New Karlovo náměstí, consisting of SOBOS CZ spol. s. r. o. and KLEE s. r. o. There were eight interested parties in the selection process. All participated in both the first and second rounds, which were conducted as an electronic auction. In the auction, the starting price was the lowest bid from the first round, which was 153 million crowns. During the auction, the bid was reduced by approximately 20 million crowns.
Work is set to begin on September 14, initially in the southern (upper) part of the square. The lower side of the square will remain accessible, and a bus from the city’s public transport will temporarily drive in from stops moved from the square to Vítězslava Nezvala and Smila Osovského streets. All shops and other establishments on the upper side of the square will remain accessible to pedestrians, said Pacal. According to him, Karlovo náměstí is home to 216 companies and entrepreneurs, but not all have establishments open to the public.
The proposal for transforming the approximately two-hectare square was developed by the Brno-based Atelier R.A.W. It involves new pavement, parking areas, greenery, furniture, and the return of water features. The original fountains will be replaced by a pair of new ones. The city announced an architectural competition for one of them two years ago. The winning design came from the Prague studio H3T architekti s. r. o., featuring a delicate circle almost levitating above the square, with the fountain's wall being formed by a water flow. It is intended to adorn the western part of the square.
Třebíč has been intensively preparing the reconstruction of Karlovo náměstí for the past five years in connection with the necessary replacement of the engineering networks beneath the square. Preparatory work has already begun. This is also related to traffic restrictions in the square, from which the stops of the city’s public transport were temporarily moved on August 1.
