Brno - The company working on the reconstruction of Brno's Královo Pole train station and the adjacent track sections warns that their work will be noisier in the coming months. Despite adhering to hygiene limits, they state that sound waves resonate additionally, and the subjective perception of sound can thus be much more intense. They mentioned this in a notice published, for example, on the website of the Královo Pole district. The town hall has so far recorded several complaints related to the construction, which started in December two years ago, said Olga Pelcová for the office.
A representative of the contractor informed about the next phase lasting from January to July at the Královo Pole station and on the track between it and Maloměřice. Workers will also be working at night. "We realize that given the nature of our activity and its impact on the surrounding environment, we are not a completely welcome neighbor," stated Lumír Patka. In some cases, which are influenced by local and possibly current climatic conditions, noise from the construction spreads in such a way that even maintaining limits can be bothersome. "The effect is also amplified at times when other common noise is muted, and during the presence of low clouds," he added. The company aims to prevent potential problems by sharing information in advance. Partial work, especially at night, will be announced continuously.
Workers also worked at night on the construction site last year. "It is appropriate to take advantage of the reduced traffic intensity, which means that the necessary restrictions affect passengers and cargo carriers less. Daytime outages would cause delays and the need to introduce alternative bus transport. Weaker traffic also means a safer working environment for builders. Last but not least, if work were not done at night, it would significantly prolong the entire construction," said Dušan Gavenda, spokesman for the Railway Administration, which is the investor.
According to Gavenda, railway workers have encountered complaints from residents sporadically, primarily in the summer. The same is true for the Královo Pole town hall. "One complaint was related to the lighting of equipment at night, and another to noise in the summer," noted Pelcová.
The reconstruction of the Královo Pole train station, including the construction of a new station building costing nearly three billion crowns, began in December 2023. "At the end of last year, we completed the reconstruction of the tracks in the section Královo Pole – Kuřim, including the repair of bridges and the replacement of overhead lines. This also includes the construction of noise barriers and a new signaling system. Directly at the Brno-Královo Pole station, we shifted the switches to a more distant position so that longer trains could fit at the station. The overpass above the station is also finished, and drainage and cable ducts are mostly completed. The construction of new platforms has started," Gavenda stated.
The new station building has a concrete foundation slab, and workers are preparing the concrete structures for the first floor. In January, the railway workers also started work on the section between Maloměřice and Královo Pole, currently in the first track. The disruption there is expected to end in April. In the spring, they plan to open the new second platform in Královo Pole and part of the underpass. The entire terminal, with connections to public transport and suburban bus lines, is to be opened in the autumn.
