Prague/Jindřichův Hradec - The restored castle chapel in Návarov, Jablonec region, and the castle in Třebešice, Benešov region, received the award from the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ) for significant achievements in heritage care. The Patrimonium pro futuro (Heritage for the Future) award is given in four categories; heritage specialists also highlighted the discovery of the medieval city wall under a house in Prague and the creation of a tour route "Under the Roofs of Cheb Houses." The owners of the monuments or those who contributed to their rescue or restoration received the awards today at the castle in Jindřichův Hradec.
The Patrimonium pro futuro awards have been presented since 2014. NPÚ uses them to highlight examples of good care for cultural monuments, which are not only owned by the state but also in the hands of private individuals. The lifetime achievement award in the care of cultural heritage was accepted by art historian Miloš Stehlík.
For the restoration of the castle chapel in Návarov in the Liberec region, the owners of the castle, Petr and Radka Turk, received an award, having financed the renovation themselves. Restorer Tomáš Berger returned the chapel to its appearance from the high baroque period. Secondary paintings were removed, stuccos repaired, and original polychromes, gilding, and silvering restored.
The second category is Discovery or Find of the Year, where heritage specialists awarded the Museum of the Capital City of Prague for the discovery of the Valentine's Gate and the medieval city wall in a house on Kocanda in the Old Town of Prague. After years of neglect, the owner restored the house, and experts uncovered remnants of the wall and gate from the 13th century. In 2016, a section of the wall about 26.5 meters long was uncovered in the cellar. Last year, a gate that passed through the wall was discovered in the basement. It was known only from written sources as the St. Valentine Gate.
In the category of Presentation of Values, Cheb and the Historical Cheb Foundation won for the creation of the tour route "Under the Roofs of Cheb Houses," a journey through the centuries. For the preservation of the monument, Eliška and Igor Valda received an award; they have been restoring the Renaissance castle with baroque and classicist modifications, the economic buildings, and the orchard in Třebešice, Kutná Hora region, for ten years.
"The main motivation for giving this award was to highlight good practice examples regardless of ownership. In the first and second years, we had quite a problem finding representatives from the regions in the individual categories. The positive thing is that in the last two years we really have a lot to choose from; there are more and more examples. However, many monuments are still waiting for enlightened owners and investors," said NPÚ General Director Naděžda Goryczková to ČTK today.
The special award from the NPÚ General Director was given to the town of Chodov for restoration and conservation work in the baroque church of St. Lawrence in Chodov. The second special award for the rescue of the Renaissance fortress of Kobylků from Kobylí in Podolí, Olomouc region, was accepted by Pavel David, who also won in the public online voting, thus becoming a laureate of the award "Monuments Thank You."
