Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav – A new joint school in Stará Boleslav will be established by a voluntary association of municipalities. They are expected to contribute a proportional amount towards the construction and operation, and the contract will guarantee them a necessary number of places in the schools. The founding and entry into the association was approved last week by the representatives of Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav; 18 other municipalities initially expressed interest in joining the association. Currently, 11 municipalities have approved the contract, and five more will make decisions soon, said Kateřina Stránská from the city to ČTK today. The school for approximately 1,000 children could open in September 2026 and will cost 1.5 billion korunas.
"This is one of the most significant steps towards realizing a new school in Stará Boleslav, which will not only ensure a sufficient number of places for local children but will also significantly reduce the uncontrolled influx of children from surrounding villages and municipalities within so-called enrollment tourism," the city stated on Facebook. The association has already been approved by municipalities such as Káraný, Skorkov, Konětopy, Dřísy, Křenek, Borek, and Záryby. More than 28,000 people live in the municipalities of the association, and nearly 400 students currently commute to Brandýs primary schools.
The municipalities are expected to contribute to the construction and operation of the school relatively according to the number of reserved places. Most of the investment will be covered by a government grant. "The state will contribute significantly more to the joint school than to a school for a single city. So for the same amount of invested municipal funds, we will get significantly more school capacity than if we were building the project only for the city. In fact, we wouldn't even have enough resources to build a significantly smaller school ourselves from grants," said Deputy Mayor Patrick Zandl (Pirates) on Facebook.
The school is planned to be built on a three-hectare plot between Třebízského and Lhotecká streets. It will include 36 standard classrooms for both primary and secondary levels and 15 to 19 specialized classrooms. The complex is also to feature an outdoor athletic oval, a gymnasium for extracurricular sports activities, an auditorium for 250 people, and a school library. The planned school cafeteria with a capacity of up to 2,500 meals could in the future supply all schools in Boleslav.
