Nové Město na Moravě (Žďársko) - The new municipal baths in Nové Městě na Moravě are expected to serve the public from this October. The construction, costing almost 100 million crowns, started a year ago, and this year the city will draw a loan of up to 50 million CZK for its completion. Construction work is currently proceeding as planned, Mayor Michal Šmarda (ČSSD) said to reporters today. In the covered complex, there will be swimming pools, water attractions, saunas, and a fitness center. "So far, there’s no reason to think we won’t be able to open on October 1. I would consider it a failure if we didn’t open,” the mayor said. The rough construction is already standing, and workers are working on the internal installations. "Of course, the warm winter helped us a lot, allowing us to work for a long time during the winter months,” Šmarda noted. The baths represent one of the largest investments in this town of ten thousand inhabitants. Invoices for 20 million CZK have been paid so far. The town hall will partially cover the further construction with a loan arranged last year with Česká spořitelna for up to 50 million. Šmarda stated that the city has now managed to change the contractual conditions through further negotiations and reduce the interest rate from 1.6 percent to 0.9 percent. "This will save the city approximately 700,000 crowns in interest,” he said. If the income and expenses of the municipal budget develop as they have so far, according to the mayor, the city will manage with a loan of around 40 million CZK. Conditions for recreation in Nové Město improved last year as well. In the Ochoza forest, the city created a 30-kilometer long network of adrenaline trails for mountain bike riders, known as singltrek. In the coming years, according to the town hall's plans, a new sports hall is also expected to be built in Nové Město.
