Brno - The Faculty Hospital Brno will begin the reconstruction of the Psychiatric Clinic this year for nearly 600 million crowns. Beatrix Křížová from the hospital's press department told ČTK this. It will be one of the largest investments. This year, work should also be completed on the insulation of some pavilions in the Bohunice complex. The project, costing a total of 160 million, started last year. It remains to be seen whether the construction of a new maternity ward, costing nearly two billion crowns, will be able to commence by the end of this year, which the hospital has been negotiating with the Ministry of Health for a long time.

The main reason for the repairs to psychiatry is poor technical condition. According to the spokesperson for the Faculty Hospital Brno, Pavel Žára, the first floor is in an almost emergency state. "There is inadequate waterproofing of the foundation and the spaces cannot be used at all due to moisture," Žára stated. The windows and doors are old, and in the summer, it gets very hot in the building.

Most of the costs will be covered by the European Union, with the remainder from the state budget. The clinic has about 1,300 hospitalizations each year. According to Žára, the most common diagnoses are depression, schizophrenia, stress and critical situations, as well as eating disorders.

This year, the Faculty Hospital Brno is also expected to complete the insulation of some buildings. The project, worth 160 million, started last year and aims to reduce the energy consumption of the buildings. The work includes insulation of the buildings, roof reconstruction, basement remediation, and the replacement of windows and doors. Most of the costs are covered by the Ministry of Health and the European Union.

It is still unclear whether work on the construction of a new maternity ward in the Bohunice hospital complex will begin this year. The hospital is negotiating with the Ministry of Health regarding its construction, which would cover most of the costs. The maternity ward, costing almost two billion crowns, aims to consolidate two facilities located seven kilometers apart in Bohunice and Obilní trh. The annual savings on operations could be up to 100 million crowns. The hospital director, Roman Kraus, wants to at least have the construction project completed this year. The hospital is the largest maternity ward in the Czech Republic, handling over 6,000 births annually.

The Faculty Hospital Brno conducts around one million outpatient examinations a year. The number of hospitalizations per year is around 70,000. The hospital's annual turnover is around eight billion crowns.
