Karlovy Vary - The completion of the renovation of the Cheb Hospital and the second phase of the repair of the Mill Colonnade were, according to the expert jury, the best constructions of the Karlovy Vary Region in this year's 22nd edition of the Karlovy Vary Buildings competition. The specialists also appreciated the proposal for the revitalization of the passenger building at the railway station in Františkovy Lázně among the projects. The general public most favored the realization of the Ohře River Embankment in Karlovy Vary. Among the restored monuments, the renovation of Farm No. 1 in Pomezné in the Cheb region was this year's winner. The results were provided today by the organizing Regional Construction Association of Karlovy Vary.


This year, the expert jury decided that first place among completed buildings would go to two constructions, the Cheb Hospital and the Mill Colonnade. Second place was awarded to the conversion of the former textile factory into a museum in Plesná, and the jury awarded third place to the Ohře River Embankment in Karlovy Vary.

For the unpretentious and elegant architectural solution of the structure and its significance for environmental education of children and youth, the jury also granted an honorable mention to the Nature Center at DDM Sova in Cheb, and for the sensitive approach to the composition of the element in the landscape and the environmental benefits in terms of water retention in the area, the jury also awarded the Pond and Greenery Planting System in Josefov in the Sokolov region.

Among the projects, besides the railway station in Františkovy Lázně, the expert jury awarded two second places, to the Transformation of the area around Lake Medard near Sokolov and to the Multifunctional House in Dolní Nivách. The third place was awarded to the project for the Astronomical Observatory in Branišov.

This year, the public voting received 4,451 votes. Of these, the Karlovy Vary Ohře River Embankment received 806 votes. Among the projects, the general public most favored the Transformation of the area around Lake Medard.

Personality awards were also given. The Minister of Industry and Trade Jozef Síkela (STAN) awarded the conversion of the former textile factory in Plesná. The same project was also recognized by the Governor of the Karlovy Vary Region, Petr Kulhánek (for STAN). The Mayor of Karlovy Vary, Andrea Pfeffer Ferklová (ANO), awarded the Ohře River Embankment. The professional construction magazine awarded its prize to the Transformation of the area around Lake Medard.

This year's 22nd edition of the competition featured 23 buildings, 13 projects, and the organizers also selected six restored monuments.
