Prague - The most beautiful train station in the country this year has become the Opava East train station. A special award for fairytale stations was given to the stations in Nemilkov on the line between Klatovy and Domažlice and the stop in Mnichovice near Prague from the sixth year of the competition. The results of the competition were presented today at the Senate building by representatives of the organizing company, the Entente Florale - Harmony Association.

The building of the Opava East train station was constructed in 1851 according to the design of architect Ernest Ehrenhaus in the late classical style. It is located at a branch of the former Northern Railway of Emperor Ferdinand. During the recent reconstruction, which preserved the original appearance of the building externally, new ticket offices, a digitalized information center, and an underpass connecting the platforms and Těšínská street were added, as described by the organizing association on its website.
In addition to the winners of individual categories, the finalists of the competition were also awarded. Among them were the train station buildings in Bělá nad Radbůzou, Česká Třebová, Jindřichův Hradec, Luhačovice, Mariánské Lázně, Šumperk, and Telč. Over 8500 people voted.
Previous years of the competition for the most beautiful train station have been won by Uherské Hradiště, Ostroměř near Hořice, Trutnov, and Zahrádky near Česká Lípa and Choceň. In the Czech Republic, there are about 2500 stops where approximately 8000 train station and other railway buildings are located.
The civic association has been organizing the competition since 2007, cooperating with entities such as the Plzeň Railway, Czech Railways, Jindřichův Hradec Local Railways, Railway Infrastructure Administration, Posázavský Pacifik, and the civic association ŽelPage.
