Prague - The most beautiful Czech railway station this year has become Doksy in the Liberec region. The station, known primarily for its so-called Count's waiting room adorned with painted scenes of Lake Mácha and the castle in Doksy, located on the line between Bakov nad Jizerou and Česká Lípa, received 1,602 votes. Třebívlice came in second with 1,429 votes. This was announced by the organizers of the survey from the Entente Florale CZ Association at today's results announcement.
Last year, the competition was won by Mimoň. It was the victory of nearby Mimoň that inspired this year's winning station's proposer, Jiří Šťastný, to submit Doksy. According to Šťastný, the award comes almost exactly on the 150th anniversary of the start of operations on this line. On Saturday, November 11, visitors to the new most beautiful station will have the opportunity to celebrate the anniversary directly in Doksy, Česká Lípa, or Nový Bor, where a cultural program will be prepared. The celebrations will include nostalgic rides on historic trains with steam locomotives.
The station in Třebívlice is on the line between Čížkovice and Obrnice, which was recently sold by the Railway Infrastructure Administration to the railway safety technology manufacturer AŽD Praha as unused. This year, the company operated tourist trains on the line during the summer season and is now negotiating with the Ústí nad Labem Region to restore regular operations.
The title of Fairy Tale Station was awarded to Velký Valtinov station. Special recognition went to the mayor of Střezimíř and the chairman of the Czech Siberia Railway Society, Miloš Jelínek. The society is trying to save part of the former Emperor Franz Joseph Railway line from Prague to Vienna, including the station in Střezimíř. This part of the line lies on the route of the so-called IV. railway corridor. After the reconstruction of the section between Sudoměřice near Tábor and Votice, the existing line is not expected to be used; the new connection should go a different way.
Last year, Mimoň succeeded in the competition for the most beautiful station, and the year before that, it was New Jičín - city station. The association has been organizing the competition since 2007. In total, people sent around 7,600 votes to this year's survey about the most beautiful station.
