Most - The city of Most will not yet sign a contract with the contractor for the renovation of the Repre cultural house. One of the participants in the proceedings submitted an objection that the city must address. It has 15 days to do so. Alena Sedláčková from the office of the mayor's department at the Most city hall told ČTK.
During the 15 days, the city will decide whether to accept the objection or reject it. The official could not comment on who submitted the objection. The renovation has several critics who believe the planned reconstruction is insensitive and will destroy a valuable building. The contract was won by a company with a bid of just under 785 million crowns. The councilors released the funds last week.
Dissatisfied residents sent an open letter to the city with over 1,100 signatures. Most has over 60,000 residents. According to the letter's authors, Repre deserves an architectural competition. After the renovation, the library will move to Repre. Adam Malý from the initiative The most Most told the council meeting that the political decision will destroy Repre. "It is proof of absolute indifference to the architecture of Most," Malý stated.
Mayor Marek Hrvol (ProMOST) stated that it would be irresponsible for the city leadership to stop the reconstruction process, which has been in preparation for several years. According to Hrvol, the city hall has approached the renovation considerately. The city leadership recently showed journalists a document in which one of the architects of the work, Mojmír Böhm, commented on the renovation. He disagreed with the organization of an architectural competition but approved two minor changes proposed in the project.
The renovation of the building in the center has been in preparation for several years. In the fall, the city announced a public competition for the third time. The 15-day period for submitting objections against the selection of the tender winner ended on Friday.
For the largest investment in modern history, the city has approved two grants totaling about half a billion crowns. One grant will be received from the Integrated Regional Operational Program and the other from the National Recovery Plan. According to the schedule, the reconstruction will last two and a half years, followed by another half year for the handover and finishing touches. The building is currently in a preserved state. The last city ball was held there in 2019.
Criticism has surrounded the project from the beginning. A group of residents delivered an open letter to the mayor and the city council last Christmas season with nearly 900 signatures and a professional analysis of the reconstruction. They requested a redesign of the project. The most recent demonstration against the renovation took place last Tuesday, attended by about 50 people.
The intricate building was created between 1972 and 1984 alongside the construction of the new city. A copper ball of the planetarium is placed on the roof. After the renovation, it, along with light fixtures and some artworks, will return there.
