Prague - The City Hall is reviewing the issuance of a zoning decision for the new construction near the Saint Agnes Convent. This was reported by the Czech Press Agency (ČTK) based on a resolution to initiate a review process on its official board. The construction, which has faced strong opposition regarding its design, was approved by the building authority of Prague 1. The decision came into effect in mid-June. The zoning decision is a preliminary step to obtaining a building permit. The office, following a proposal from one of the participants in the zoning process, believes that "it can be reasonably assumed that the decision was made in violation of legal regulations". According to the proposal, the building authority did not secure all necessary documents and decisions prior to issuing the ruling. "Some of the documents for the decision were issued based on the originally discussed documentation, or at the time of the decision based on already repealed regulations," the resolution states. This concerns, for example, the description of the building's shape or its distance from neighboring constructions. The office must now decide whether the identified errors justify the annulment or amendment of the zoning decision. The project has sparked protests from hundreds of people in recent months. The house was designed by architect Zdeněk Fránek, and the project has undergone several changes. In relation to the expanded visualizations, by which people nicknamed the house, he states that he never intended for the façade to be in pink color. The original design of the project from 2008, which included a glass façade, was rejected by the Ministry of Culture based on the opinion of the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ) and in 2010, the permits from Prague's heritage officials were revoked. The new project by the company Praga Progetti e investimenti, featuring windows shaped like faces, has been approved by both the NPÚ and city hall heritage officials, and the building permit was issued based on this. The Association of Societies for the Protection and Development of Cultural Heritage (ASORKD) is also requesting a review of the project.
