Ledeč nad Sázavou (Havlíčkobrodsko) - The town hall in Ledeč nad Sázavou has not yet succeeded in enforcing a reduction of the municipal heritage conservation area, despite receiving significant support from residents for this step. In a January survey, over 95 percent of the 1951 valid votes were in favor of reducing the area. Ledeč's mayor Petr Vaněk (ČSSD) told ČTK today that changes in the position of the Minister of Culture complicate the promotion of this step. "We are waiting to see if there will be early elections, so that the Minister of Culture, regardless of which party he belongs to, could last longer, and that we could come to an agreement with him," said the mayor. According to him, the town representatives had talks with the former Minister of Culture Alena Hanáková, who soon resigned thereafter. According to Vaňka, the city is not backing down from the intention to limit the heritage conservation area. "From the conservationists, we hear that the area was drawn by experts. But how could they draw it through the middle of the street, where the same buildings are in the area and the same are not?", the mayor reiterated one of the arguments. The heritage conservation area in Ledeč was established by a decree from the Ministry of Culture in April 2003. The municipal council cannot change its boundaries. Representatives of the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ) in Telč stated in January that they would address the Ledeč area if they received a prompt from the ministry. "We have not received any prompt for a revision from the Ministry of Culture yet," said Ilona Ampapová, spokesperson for the Telč office today. In a survey held concurrently with the first round of the presidential election, 1862 residents expressed support for the revision of the area, while 89 were against it. Nearly 70 percent of those who showed up to vote cast a ballot. According to the town hall, the area in Ledeč is too broad and includes buildings from the 1980s; it cuts Haškova Street in half. People in the area are said to face higher costs for home repairs without having the chance to receive subsidies for them.
