Brno - The South Moravian Region along with Brno is preparing the construction of a bypass for the Brno-Tuřany city district between 2020 and 2023. The construction aims to resolve the significant traffic burden in the area. The anticipated costs are 129 million crowns, announced today to ČTK the Deputy Governor responsible for transport, Roman Hanák (ČSSD). Most of the costs will be covered by grants from the European Union, with additional funding coming from the region and the city, which are preparing a cooperation agreement for the construction.
The Tuřany bypass is a long-term intention of the region and the city. The roadway is to be two lanes wide and two-way, with a total length of 2.6 kilometers. It will connect to the road from Brno to the village of Sokolnice and to Hanácká Street. "It is meant to divert traffic from the congested thoroughfare of Tuřany and the Brněnské Ivanovice district. It is a relocation of the regional road and several associated city structures. Therefore, it is a joint investment for which a framework agreement is being prepared," stated Hanák.
Approximately three-quarters of the construction costs will be covered by EU and state budget funds. "The remaining amount will be paid for by the region and the city," added the deputy. In addition to the mentioned costs of 129 million, however, more money will be needed for land acquisition. "This amount cannot be quantified today," he said.
If the necessary land can be acquired, construction could begin in 2020. The bypass project has had a valid zoning decision since 2008, which is currently valid until 2019. According to the city, documentation for the building permit and project documentation for the execution of the construction has been ready since 2012, both prepared by Brněnské komunikace.
"According to the proposed cooperation agreement, the city of Brno should primarily ensure the update and extension of the validity of these documents, the documentation required for the handover procedure including its financing, land acquisition, and valid decisions necessary for permitting the entire construction," stated Deputy Mayor Richard Mrázek (ANO). The documents will then be used by the region in preparing the tender for the construction supplier.
