Brno - A little-known architectural attraction, the functionalist New House Colony in Brno's Žabovřesky, is presented by an information panel on Petřvaldská Street and a brief brochure published by the Brno Tourist and Information Center (TIC).

The complex of sixteen row and standalone houses, designed by nine architects, has been designated as European Heritage since this April. The colony was established in 1928 as part of the Exhibition of Contemporary Culture in Czechoslovakia, with individual houses designed by Bohuslav Fuchs, Ernst Wiesner, Jiří Kroha, and Jaroslav Syřiště, among others. Some buildings are triplexes, others duplexes, and some stand alone.

"Brno's functionalism is a topic that attracts people with a passion for architecture as well as professionals. Unfortunately, it is currently quite difficult to recognize all the functionalist elements in the New House Colony, as all the houses are privately owned and the owners manage them at their discretion. That is why I welcome that visitors now have the opportunity to learn about its history, architectural principles, and descriptions of individual houses, often supplemented by original photographs," stated Kristýna Černá (ODS), councilor for marketing and tourism.

Brochures can be picked up at the TIC Brno information center or downloaded from the GotoBrno website. It is also available in English, German, and Polish.
