Concept The object is designed as an entrance gate to another state. Not only physically but also commercially and diplomatically. The breaking of the façade forms an imaginary funnel that enhances the direction toward the gate's opening. Another goal is to create a connection to the traditions of castles in the Czech lands. The object is conceived as a fortress with a garden in its core.
Composition The addressed object is located in the green zone of Washington D.C.. The surrounding embassy buildings consist of solitary buildings of the same use for other countries. The embassy buildings are situated parallel to Spring of Freedom Street. This enhances the longitudinal character of the adjacent street. Upon entering the building, the consular section is on the left side and the reception is on the right side. The consular section is directly accessible from Spring of Freedom Street. Behind a protective fence and an imaginary rampart formed by the consular section and reception lies the main building of the embassy. In this four-story building, an opening is created through two floors, into which a single-story building of the representative part is embedded, with one underground level designated for parking. This building also fulfills the function of entry for the administrative part. The representative section is enclosed by a residential building for embassy employees with four above-ground floors, part of which is in the basement. This building is set into the terrain so that two floors are completely underground on the southern side. These three objects and the massive wall on the western side surround the representative garden, thus creating a protected intimate zone for representative events and relaxation.
Material Solution The majority of the object is made of exposed concrete, which symbolizes stability. Once it acquires patina, it will enhance the character of longevity and "weathered robustness." In contrast to the concrete, a lightweight suspended façade is designed, made of glass panels with gold printing. The shine and brightness of the façade reflect the surroundings, creating a certain symbiosis with it.
