Brno - The South Moravian Region has received a grant of 289 million crowns for the construction of the Sanatorium Pálava treatment and rehabilitation institute in Pasohlávky near Brno. Funds from the National Recovery Plan will cover more than a third of the costs, which amount to 784 million crowns excluding VAT. The project was contracted by the region for 200 million less than expected, and the acquisition of the grant is another success, said Governor Jan Grolich (KDU-ČSL) in a press release today.

The Sanatorium Pálava will provide follow-up care for patients after severe and critical conditions in the fields of neurology, neurosurgery, traumatology, and orthopedics, offering 214 beds. "Such facilities are lacking throughout Moravia. In March we will lay the cornerstone, and if everything goes according to plan, the sanatorium will begin operations at the beginning of 2026," said Deputy Governor Jan Zámečník (KDU-ČSL). The region intends to cover the institute's construction costs with its own funds in addition to the grant. If necessary, it can draw a loan of up to 550 million crowns.

The contractor is the company Sanatorium Pálava VCES – SPIE Stangl, which took over the construction site in November. The company has started earthworks involving land preparation and foundation work for the building. The structural work of the facility is scheduled to be completed in the autumn of 2024.
