Brno – The commencement of the construction of the new rehabilitation and treatment institute Sanatorium Pálava in Pasohlávky in the Brno region, worth approximately one billion crowns, is experiencing delays. The South Moravian region still does not know whether it will receive a subsidy from the state. Moreover, the Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS) is dealing with the selection process for the contractor. This was stated today by Deputy Governor Jan Zámečník at the regional council meeting.

"In May of this year, we submitted a request for a subsidy of nearly 300 million from the National Recovery Plan to the Ministry of Health. Unfortunately, we have not received its evaluation yet. Additionally, we could not sign a contract with the winning bidder because one of the companies, which did not even submit a bid, filed a complaint with the ÚOHS. The office agreed with the region in the first round that the conditions of the process were correct. However, the company filed a complaint, and we are now waiting for the office's decision," he stated.

The sanatorium's capacity is planned for 216 patients, and the expected number of employees is about 160. The plan was to sign a contract with the selected supplier in September, start construction this year, and complete it by the end of 2025. "Waiting for the decision from the ministry and the office, however, significantly delays the start of construction. We are now unable to complete the sanatorium in 2025. Therefore, we will be asking the Ministry of Health for an extension of the deadline by another six months, that is, until the middle of 2026," the deputy added.

Zámečník expects more information by the next council meeting planned for the beginning of November. The region must decide to start construction as soon as possible, not only concerning the subsidy but also in regard to the construction company that is to build the institute. In the coming years, a spa complex is expected to be developed nearby, planned by the Chinese company RiseSun. The project for the spa, worth two billion crowns, received a land use decision last year.
