Brno - The South Moravian Region wants to obtain subsidies for the construction of two homes for the elderly with special regimes in Bučovice in the Vyškov region and Miroslav in the Znojmo region, which are to have a total of 100 places. The construction costs exceed 240 million, said the governor's deputy Marek Šlapal (ČSSD) to reporters today. He stated that the region committed to participate with 100 million, and will apply for the rest from the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. If the subsidy is obtained, the homes could be completed in 2019.

The application to the ministry and the commitment to co-financing were approved by the council today. Both the home in Bučovice and the home in Miroslav will offer 50 beds each. "We have developed projects for these two locations and have a chance to obtain financial resources from the ministry. We assessed the need for the construction of homes in these two locations four years ago," Šlapal stated.

According to him, it depends on how the ministry decides on the subsidy. "It is not bound by any deadline, but a decision could be made by summer. In autumn we could then initiate a competition for the contractor. This competition will ultimately show what the final price will be," Šlapal added.

It will be a home with a special regime. "It will be intended for seniors whose condition no longer allows them to remain in a home environment," Šlapal added. Homes with a special regime care for seniors with Alzheimer's disease or dementia, for example.

In the South Moravian Region, there are about 35 homes for the elderly with special regimes, approximately half are run by the region, while the others are established by cities, municipalities, and other social service providers. All offer over 2800 beds. In recent years, the number of beds has increased by 800, yet according to Karel Adam from the Brno branch of the Czech Statistical Office, there is roughly double the number of unmet applications. However, this does not mean that the number of applicants is so high, as some submit multiple applications for different locations.
