Brno - Brno is planning the construction of three homes for the elderly with nursing services in the Holásky area. The estimated costs for all three buildings are around 150 million crowns, said today the mayor's deputy Oliver Pospíšil (ČSSD) to ČTK. The homes will offer 90 residential units. The first residents could move in by the autumn of 2017. The city is establishing more than a dozen homes for the elderly, but they are far from sufficient to meet the demand of all applicants.
The city plans construction on V Aleji and Ledárenská streets. "Each house will offer approximately 30 residential units. They will mostly be one-bedroom apartments and studios, as seniors usually live alone. However, the capacity of the buildings will be greater, so seniors can also live in pairs," Pospíšil stated.
According to him, some of the apartments will be barrier-free for immobile clients. "The buildings should be finished by September 2017, when we could occupy the first apartments," Pospíšil added. The project is currently at a stage where the city will include it among budget actions, select a designer, and arrange for the preparation of project documentation.
The estimated costs are around 150 million crowns. The city will cover them. "We will spend the money from the housing construction fund. It includes funds from the sale of apartments," the deputy explained.
The magistrate operates 11 homes for the elderly with a capacity of nearly 2000 beds. The city currently registers more than 2000 applicants for placement in these facilities. In addition to the city hall, eight homes for the elderly are operated by non-profit organizations in Brno, providing nearly 300 beds. These organizations also have records of over 300 people requesting placement in their homes.
