Prague - Prague representatives have supported the construction of a railway line from Prague to Kladno between Dejvice and Veleslavín through a tunnel dug under Střešovice. Prague 7 is also requesting to cover the line in Stromovka, which the representatives acknowledged today. The resolution was presented by Deputy Petr Dolínek (ČSSD) during the discussion of a petition with 5000 signatures for the creation of a cycle path in the area of the line.

"The railway line to Kladno is very necessary, but its design must not worsen the quality of life for the people living nearby, as in such a case it would largely lack meaning," Dolínek stated. According to him, the possibility of obtaining European funding for the construction should not lead to the line being built as uncovered.

The Railway Infrastructure Administration (SŽDC) declared in April that it would check the possibility of routing the modernized railway in two dug tunnels underground. The city district of Prague 6 has long opposed the surface variant.

The currently preferred route, which was approved by the Ministry of Transport last summer, is supposed to run on the surface from Masaryk Station across the Negrelli Viaduct to Stromovka and then through a tunnel to Dejvice. Between Dejvice and Veleslavín, the line is intended to run on the surface or in a so-called cutting and then continue to Kladno with a branch to the airport. It is expected to cost nearly 20 billion crowns, with the tunnel variant increasing the cost by about 3.5 billion crowns.
