Litomyšl (Svitavy) - A modern church with an unconventional architectural composition of the Church of the Brethren is set to begin construction in Litomyšl in the Svitavy region, most likely in October. The church has received a pledge for a state grant, which it should utilize by the end of this year. Therefore, the first construction work is moving from spring next year to this autumn. This information was provided to ČTK by church member Jana Macková.
"The timelines are realistic; we should be able to get all the permits to utilize the funds by the end of the year and not have to return them," she stated.
The church, according to the design of the architectural firm Fránek Architects, will cost 20 million crowns. The church has secured about 12 million crowns. It has received or has promised interest-free loans from entrepreneurs, and is preparing to sell a family villa with a garden for four to six million, which it previously built as a chapel. Believers also regularly contribute to the church. "We firmly believe that we will raise the money; otherwise, we wouldn't be going ahead with this," Macková added.
The church, which bears no resemblance to traditional church buildings, will be located by road I/35 towards Svitavy. The church use of the glass structure embedded in a green slope will be marked only by a cross. The main materials will be exposed concrete, wire-glass, and fine mesh. This should make the building resistant to vandalism. The hall will accommodate 150 people, and there will be a three-room apartment on the second floor.
