Litomyšl (Svitavsko) - In Litomyšl, Svitavsko, the Church of Brothers today opened a new modern church with a festive service. Its construction took two years. The church, which stands next to the main road through the town towards Svitavy, will open to the public on Sunday. Until now, the faithful have been gathering in an inconspicuous prayer hall near the train station. The building was designed by architect Zdeněk Fránek in the spirit of functionalism. The unusual appearance of the church is primarily given by the alternatingly sloped shed roofs, which resemble a ramp. The reinforced concrete two-level structure is set into the sloping terrain. On the facade of the church is a unique glass cross crafted by Václav Cigler. It is two meters high and weighs 200 kilograms. The church has a hall for about 150 people, two multipurpose clubrooms, and a social vestibule with facilities, said pastor Daniel Smetana to ČTK. On the second floor, there is an apartment for the clergyman and his family. The construction costs reached about 20 million crowns. They were covered by the church's own resources and its collections, money from foundations and endowment funds, the church borrowed seven million, and the remaining funds were provided by the European Union and the proceeds from a public collection. The land was provided by the Litomyšl municipality. The church is also expected to be used for lectures, exhibitions, educational events, and theater. The municipality has also agreed with the church that the church will serve as a funeral ceremony hall during burials.
