Prague - The Prague Public Transport Company (DPP) together with city representatives will today ceremonially launch the construction of the first part of the metro line D from Pankrác to Písnice. The investor is DPP, which has the necessary permits and has selected a construction contractor. The first section to be built will be the route from Pankrác to Olbrachtova and then to Nové Dvory. The costs are expected to be around 52.09 billion crowns when accounting for inflation, and the opening is planned for 2029.
Construction will then continue to the Písnice Depot, and in the future, a section from Pankrác to Náměstí Míru is planned. At the transfer station Pankrác C and D, more than 120,000 passengers are expected daily.
DPP completed a geological survey this January, which was conducted at four locations in Pankrác. The structures created during the survey will be used in the future.
The preparation for the construction faced several issues. The city had to negotiate with landowners along the planned route. The Pankrácká společnost association filed several complaints against the construction, including accusations of systemic bias against the city hall, which the Ministry of Transport subsequently rejected. The same complainants also addressed a complaint against the issuance of a building permit. The Antimonopoly Office also dealt with a complaint regarding the tender in which DPP selected the contractor for the construction. This complaint was also rejected.
For this year, the capital city has allocated more than four billion crowns in the budget for the metro construction. According to earlier statements from city representatives, the city hall will finance the construction both from its own budget and through a loan, negotiations are ongoing with the European Investment Bank (EIB). At the same time, it will appeal to the government for assistance with the construction.
