Prague - The leadership of Prague has started to discuss the options for continuing the planned metro line D from náměstí Míru to the city center again. The variants consider a connection to the Main Train Station. From there, the metro could lead either to náměstí Republiky or to Žižkov and Vysočany. The Prague Institute of Planning and Development (IPR) has been tasked by the council to examine the individual options by the end of the year. This follows from the municipal documents. The designed route of metro line D will lead from náměstí Míru to Písnice. Last week, the council decided that the new line will be served by driverless trains. The first section to be constructed will be from Pankrác to the station Depo Písnice, followed by the section from Pankrác to náměstí Míru. Further extension towards the center is still in the planning phase. Prague 3 is already fighting for the metro to lead to Žižkov and further to Harfa. "In September, the representatives will express their opinion on this. I expect that they will all unanimously support this option," said today the mayor Vladislava Hujová (TOP 09). According to her, Žižkov has great development potential, which the metro needs. Advocates of the option for the metro leading to náměstí Republiky argue that metro D only makes sense when connected to other metro lines and the railway. The Main Train Station would be a transfer point to metro line C, and the Náměstí Republiky station would connect to metro line B. Metro D will connect the center with the southern part of the city. The construction of the first part should be completed by 2022. The designers preliminarily estimate the costs at around 50 billion crowns. Prague wants to draw funding for the construction from European funds. The transport company (DPP) is currently dealing with land acquisitions. New metro stations A to Motol were recently opened for passengers at a cost of about 20 billion crowns.
