Jihlava - At the turn of July and August, the construction of the City Park shopping and entertainment center in Jihlava will begin with the assembly of the skeleton. For now, earthworks are being carried out on the site of the former industrial area under the Znojmo Bridge. The building will stand on concrete piles with a diameter of 60 to 150 centimeters, reaching depths of up to nine meters. The assembly of the skeleton should be completed by this winter. Martin Jaroš from the investing company CEI Building said this to reporters today. According to him, the investor intends to open City Park on an area of more than 25,000 square meters in October to November 2008. Among other things, future customers will find a full-range hypermarket with a sales area of 5,300 square meters, stores for electronics, clothing, and sporting goods with over 1,000 square meters, as well as other smaller shops. A multiplex cinema with four halls is expected to accommodate 500 viewers, and there will be space for 850 cars in the parking lots. "We have already secured around 60 percent of the stores," Jaroš said. The investor and the city leadership have differing opinions on the lease agreement for the land in the surrounding area, which is necessary for the construction. "From our perspective, the city has altered the parameters of the lease agreement under which we were supposed to temporarily lease the land on which we will build networks and some relocations," Jaroš stated. Mayor Jaroslav Vymazal rejected this, stating that the conditions under which the construction was permitted will be adhered to. So far, both partners have not found common ground even in the way of jointly obtaining European subsidies for related investments. "It would be an appropriate opportunity to draw European funds. These would not be funds just for us, but the surrounding area of City Park could be developed to a much larger scale," Jaroš mentioned. According to Vymazal, this is problematic. "The conditions for creating an integrated urban development plan are not yet known, let alone for us to apply for European subsidies. The first applications could be sent at the beginning of next year," Vymazal stated.
