Jihlava - Opponents of the construction of the City Park shopping and entertainment center in Jihlava were unsuccessful with the local councilors. The mayor informed the petition signatories in a letter that the construction is in accordance with the zoning plan, which the council had approved without protests from residents five years ago. The National Heritage Institute also deemed the construction in the area permissible this April. The public can familiarize itself with all the materials related to the zoning procedure at the magistrate's office, wrote Mayor Vladimír Hink (ODS) to the petition organizer. The procedure has been halted simultaneously due to the resolution of the impact of the construction on the Koželužský stream. The letter, which was discussed by the council on Thursday, is available to ČTK. The petition with 399 signatures was received by the magistrate on June 23. According to the signatories, the construction will fundamentally disrupt the composition of the historic center and its surroundings. Shopping and entertainment centers should, in their opinion, be built on the outskirts of the city. The historic center of the former royal mining town should be preserved for future generations. The construction of the shopping and entertainment center in Jihlava is planned by the investor company CEI Building for this September. The complex, featuring shops, restaurants, and a multiplex cinema, costing 1.3 billion crowns under the Znojemský Bridge, is intended to be opened to the public in the summer of 2008. A biocorridor, a cycling route, and up to 25 percent of relaxation green space must be preserved in the area. The building must also not obstruct the view of the urban core. According to the plan, the building will exceed the Znojemský Bridge by about five meters, which is less than the original industrial complex. The investor has already had that demolished. The center is to be built on an area of more than 20,000 square meters. The construction will employ 550 people. The complex will include 120 retail units. Customers will access the area via a new roundabout, with a parking lot available for 900 vehicles. The center is expected to employ 450 people after completion. > Citizens will be able to express their views online regarding the City Park construction > A petition has been created against the City Park construction in Jihlava > The investor plans to start the construction of the entertainment center in Jihlava this autumn > The project for the shopping center in Jihlava is not liked by heritage protectors > Demolition of buildings for the City Park in Jihlava will begin in November
