Chrudim - The not very attractive space in front of the railway station in Chrudim is set to become more welcoming for arrivals. The town hall is preparing modifications that will create a public transport terminal here. The area currently serves mainly vehicles, but it should now also cater more to pedestrians, said city architect Marek Janatka to ČTK.
"The public space will be strengthened and adapted so that passengers have easier communication links, a better space for waiting for connections, and also for someone else, and so that the significance of the forecourt becomes more urban, city-forming, and contemporary," stated Janatka.
According to Deputy Mayor Jan Čechlovský (ODS), the public transport exit and entry stops will be concentrated in front of the railway building. Passengers will be protected from the whims of the weather by a new covered columned entrance hall with a glazed roof. The sidewalks and greenery will be modified and expanded, and a parking lot will be created at the entrance to the freight station. The project also includes the installation of a fountain and new furniture.
The town hall is currently preparing the project documentation for the planning process. It aims to obtain a subsidy from the Integrated Territorial Investments (ITI) program of the Hradec Králové-Pardubice agglomeration for the reconstruction. The initial cost estimate is up to 60 million. Construction could start as early as next year. The neighboring, quite dilapidated bus station will remain unchanged for now. It is owned by a private company.
