Cheb - Cheb will prepare a territorial study for three areas that could develop in the future. These are Zlatý vrch and Špitálský vrch, the vicinity of the airport, and the land behind the cemetery. The studies are intended to propose primarily the necessary infrastructure for future development, said Cheb's mayor, Petr Navrátil (ČSSD), to reporters today. "The city's land use plan defines about 30 development areas, the utilization of which is conditioned by territorial studies. These studies will determine how the area will be connected to transportation, where the water will run, and so on. We want to prioritize the area of the former barracks on Zlatý vrch, the land behind the cemetery, and near the airport," summarized Navrátil. While Zlatý and Špitálský vrch are areas designated primarily for housing, industrial buildings could also rise behind the cemetery. Cheb intends to use the vicinity of the airport strictly for the needs of air transport development. While the lands on Zlatý vrch and Špitálský vrch are owned by the city, in the area behind the cemetery, the city only owns part of the land; the rest is owned by private owners. Most of the land near the airport also belongs to the city, with the exception of the area of the former runway, which the city wants to acquire from the state. According to ongoing negotiations, this could happen later this year. Historically, Cheb expanded in circles. While in previous centuries, industry concentrated around the flow of the Ohře River, the industrial part of the city is now more along transportation routes. Factories are thus located on the east side of the railway and along the R6 highway. Residential parts of the city could, according to Navrátil, continue to develop in concentric circles, just as in the past.
