Brno - Some members of the Green Party in Brno want to resign from the party due to the approval of the railway station's relocation. They are bothered that the city conference of the party this week retroactively confirmed the actions of its two representatives in the Brno city hall, Deputy Mayor Martin Ander and councilor Jana Drápalová. In the program statement of the council, they agreed to a compromise that the station would be moved away from the city center, but it would be connected to the current station by a rapid rail line. The Greens originally strongly criticized the relocation of the station and advocated for its modernization in the center. They built their electoral campaign on this.

According to information from ČTK, at least three members of the party want to leave, including the well-known councilor of the Brno-střed district Svatopluk Bartík. "I will remain a councilor, but at least until the Greens return to their program, I do not want to participate in this," Bartík told ČTK today, who was among the most active proponents of repairing the station in the center in the previous electoral term.
The actions of the Green Party are also not favored by the civic coalition "Railway Station in the Center," whose members include ecological activists Miroslav Patrik, Milan Štefanec, and Martin Robeš. The coalition called on the Greens to adhere to their electoral program before the city committee meeting. In it, the party stated that "the main station serves passengers best where it is - in the center of the city" and therefore will "advocate for the modernization of the station in close proximity to the historical center of the city during the necessary reconstruction of the railway junction."
The relocation of the station is the most controversial transport construction in Brno. The project was pushed by previous city councils led by the ODS. The current coalition, composed of the ČSSD, KDU-ČSL, the Green Party, and the Brno 2006 movement, has long been unable to agree on the form of the modernization of the railway junction in Brno. Ultimately, it leaned towards the relocation, as the option is better prepared, and if the city wanted a new station in the center, it would not be able to take advantage of European subsidies due to the long preparation time.
