České Budějovice - České Budějovice will address the potential use of the cultural house Slavie. The heritage-protected building is in poor condition and would need renovation. Although various events are still held there, there is no dramaturgical concept for the building. It would be beneficial to form a project team to focus on dramaturgy and prepare a vision for the use of this building, said the mayor's deputy Ivana Popelová (HOPB) to reporters today.

An expert debate on the further concept for the use of the cultural house is to be held, likely in September. There are two previously developed architectural conceptual studies. One proposes an extension of the cultural house to create a concert hall with approximately 1,000 seats. The other conceptualizes the house as a multifunctional facility. It would expand the capacity of the main hall, but there would also be space for local cultural groups that would have rehearsal rooms and the opportunity to perform. According to Popelová, these two concepts should be discussed.
However, she noted that the city currently has no funds for the renovation of the cultural house. Earlier estimates suggested that, along with the completion, it would cost hundreds of millions of crowns.
Discussions about Slavie and its use have been ongoing for more than five years. For example, there was talk of creating a European House of Culture, which would be built with the help of EU subsidies, or a center called Games and Illusions. It was considered that it would serve a professional theater scene or that an open amateur theater scene could be established there.
