Brno – Brno wants to announce a survey in September to see if people wish to expand the park at Kraví hora near the observatory. This was said today by the Deputy Mayor Tomáš Koláčný (Pirates) to journalists. The proposal to expand the park, which would cost about 10 million, came from the management of the observatory. They plan to demolish five buildings in poor condition. In opposition to this, a petition with 700 signatures was created, as part of the former military complex is used by artists.
City councilors discussed the issue today. "We decided that we do not want to make this decision ourselves at this moment, but we want to hear the opinion of the citizens. Therefore, in September we will conduct a survey that will give the public the opportunity to express whether they are interested in expanding the park at Kraví hora or if they want the buildings to be preserved," said Koláčný.
According to him, while the stance resulting from the survey is not binding for the city, as it can be in the case of a referendum with certain participation, the city management would like to take the residents' opinion into account. He also wants to discuss the modifications of the area with representatives of the Czech Technical University, which, like the city, owns part of the site.
The petition demands that the city now preserve the buildings and engage in discussions with the artists and together with the CTU decide on the future of the area. According to senator Jiří Dušek from the ANO movement and director of the observatory, the buildings are 80 years old and are in poor condition. Some are used by artists, and some as storage, with asbestos present in some buildings. He also mentioned the debts of some tenants, which the artists, however, reject.
