Brno - The councilors of Brno approved the termination of the contract with Metrostav DIZ regarding the construction of the first phase of the Anthropos sports and recreation complex at their last meeting. It was a mutual agreement with no claims from the contractor, Tadeáš Mima from the city hall's press department said today to ČTK. The reason is that the building authority canceled the construction permit last year. The city is now preparing to select a contractor who will ensure the adjustment of the current documentation according to the new study and related engineering activities.

The sports facility near the Anthropos museum pavilion has been in preparation by the city for several years. Last May, it signed a contract with Metrostav DIZ for the first phase. This phase mainly involved the demolition of part of the existing structures, complete preparation of engineering networks, and the construction of sports facilities such as inline circuits, a multipurpose sand playground, a pump track, or football fields.

The effectiveness of the contract was dependent on the issuance of a final building permit and its transfer to the contractor. "However, an appeal followed, pointing out the significant impact of the project on the biologically important locality around the Anthropos. The biological assessment confirmed the objections. From this situation, it became clear that the scope and placement of the sports facilities must be adjusted compared to the original plan. The construction in its original form cannot be fulfilled now, so the councilors approved the termination of the contract on Wednesday," Mima stated.

Brno is currently preparing tender documentation for selecting the construction contractor using the design & build method. "The selected contractor will ensure the adjustment of the current documentation according to the new study, which modifies the scope of the sports facility concerning the conducted biological survey of the area, along with related engineering activities. After selecting the contractor, work will begin on modifying the project documentation. The start of the actual construction cannot be currently estimated, but its completion is planned no later than the end of 2028," he added.

Brno took over the unused area in Pisárky from the Ministry of Defense in 2019. At that time, it was anticipated that the sports facility would be completed by the end of last year.
