Brno – Brno is looking for a company for the first phase of the construction of a sports and recreational complex in the area near the Anthropos museum pavilion. Estimated costs are expected to be around 250 million crowns excluding VAT. City representatives informed journalists about this today. The complex will include inline tracks and football fields. Work is expected to start in January next year. The construction is set to last 18 months.
Brno city councilors today approved the start of the procurement process for a contractor. "The first phase mainly involves the demolition of existing buildings, the complete preparation of engineering networks, and the construction of sports facilities such as inline tracks, a multipurpose sand pitch, a pump track, or football fields," said Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).
The project also includes the reconstruction of the shooting range building, which is a protected monument, and therefore significantly increases investment costs according to the city. "We discussed the reconstruction with representatives of the National Heritage Institute and the Department of Monument Care of the City of Brno. Their aim was to minimize aesthetic interventions. We want to restore the shooting range to as identical a form as possible. While the aesthetic character will be preserved, the building will undergo extensive reconstruction. Both the shooting range and the gymnasium have deteriorated in recent decades and are in a dilapidated state," said the mayor's deputy Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL).
In the first phase, a number of sports facilities will be created in the area, and it will also connect with the surroundings. “A 200-meter inline track, meeting competitive parameters, will be built in the location of the former football field. A 500-meter track will be on the outer perimeter. Everything will be appropriately connected to the bike paths that will run throughout the entire complex. There are also plans for an MTB track or pump track. The football field will be usable for small-sided football and futsal. People will be able to play badminton or beach volleyball on the multipurpose sand pitch," said councilor for sports Jaroslav Suchý (KDU-ČSL).
The project also includes a footbridge over the Svratka River, which cyclists and pedestrians will be able to use. It will provide a connection to other sports facilities in the area, such as the swimming pool at the Riviera or the nearby transportation education and training complex.
