Brno - Brno has completed the project documentation for the construction of the Janáček Cultural Center. The competition for the construction could start in September. This was stated today by Deputy Mayor Tomáš Koláčný (Pirates) to the journalists. The concert hall, costing almost two billion korunas, will have 1200 seats for listeners. Currently, there are underground garages in the area with almost 200 spaces, which are not yet in use.
Brno city councilors acknowledged the completed project documentation. Brno will commission the contractor with the city company Brněnské komunikace, which will organize the procurement procedure and ensure the role of construction manager based on a valid cooperation agreement. "The construction of the concert hall is crucial primarily for the Brno Philharmonic. In the Besední house, where the philharmonic currently resides, only 60 out of 120 ensemble members can fit during performances," stated Koláčný. According to Councilor for Culture Marek Fišer (Pirates), the city council also instructed the culture department to develop a model for the operational costs of the concert hall.
The concert hall has a valid building permit, and in addition to the city, the Ministry of Culture should contribute 600 million, the region 100 million, and Brněnské komunikace should contribute more than 300 million. The first concert in the hall is expected to be in 2025.
The construction will be located at the corner of Veselá and Besední streets. Above the garages, there will be a building with six floors. In addition to the hall for 1200 listeners, it will have dressing rooms, facilities, storage areas, but also rehearsal rooms and space for technology.
