Brno - Brno is requesting the region to ensure that the planned road 43 is covered or in a tunnel in the section through the city districts of Kníničky and Bystrc. The regional representatives are set to formally begin the update of the regional land use plan on Thursday, and representatives from Brno have sent the region requests on how to proceed with the update. This mainly concerns road 43, but also the bypass of Maloměřice and Obřany, for example. Brno wants maximum protection for the city's residents against the impacts of transit traffic, said Deputy Mayor Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL) at a press conference today.
The South Moravian Region will start updating the regional land use plan based on a study commissioned in the previous two years. Among other things, the study recommended routing the highway or the four-lane road 43 through the city districts of Kníničky, Bystrc, and Bosonohy, where it is to connect with the D1 highway at a large intersection. The city currently does not dispute this route. However, since the region did not address how the road would look in the study and only compared traffic flows, it is demanding the development of a technical solution.
"Our goal is maximum protection for the residents of Brno, so we emphasize that it is necessary to address some issues in the update, even if they go beyond the principles. We demand that the environmental impact be minimized and that the section passing through Kníničky and Bystrc be completely covered, i.e., in a tunnel or roofed," said Hladík. At the same time, the road should not create a barrier in the urban areas.
In Bosonohy, the region is required to ensure that the road is routed as far as possible from residential buildings, according to the city. Additionally, Brno's councilors are requesting a clear definition of the bypass of Maloměřice and Obřany, as well as its connection to the major city ring at the Rokytova section. This would relocate the transit traffic from these city districts heading to other parts of Brno from Bílovice nad Svitavou and the municipalities above them.
The region aims to issue the update of the land use plan by the fall of 2020.
