Brno - The deadline for submitting price offers for the construction of the Janáček Cultural Center (JKC) in Brno has been postponed to March 1. The original deadline of today was shifted by the council due to additional clarifying inquiries from bidders regarding the tender documentation and because the city modified the contract attachments, the city hall stated in a press release.

The selection process for the contractor is in two phases, with four companies that met the qualification requirements emerging as interested parties from the first round. Now, in the second round, these bidders have to submit price offers, with the competitive price set at 2.4 billion crowns. "Because nearly 100 mostly technical and very detailed questions regarding the planned use of the building were received, it was not always possible to respond to all within the stipulated three working days," explained the reason for the deadline postponement by Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).

JKC will serve as a large concert hall for the Brno Philharmonic, and the construction is expected to take three years. The preparation for the building has been dragging on for many years. Current city officials have previously faced criticism from opposition councilors and cultural figures for postponing the construction of the concert hall. The Brno Philharmonic currently performs at the Besední House, where it cannot hold concerts with the maximum possible ensemble.

The auditorium of the new hall will accommodate 1,200 people and will be built in a gap between Veselá and Besední streets. Previously, there used to be a parking lot, and since 2018, there have been underground garages that were created as the first phase of construction. However, since the city has not yet managed to build on the garages, they are not used for parking and are sealed off.
