Brno - The Brno Faculty of Fine Arts, after moving to new spaces on Údolní Street, can boast its own gallery. Students and graduates will have space in it. Currently, interested parties can view the works of Johana and Ondřej Mert. The relocation started last summer; today the school held a ceremonial opening of its operations. “The Faculty of Fine Arts moved in the last semester; however, the building administration was still fine-tuning the operational details, so it is now possible to symbolically open the area to the wider public,” stated Radana Kolčavová, spokesperson for the Brno University of Technology, under which the faculty falls.
In the past, the school was located in two buildings in a dilapidated state, one on Rybářská Street and the other on Údolní Street closer to the center. It has found new premises in the historic university complex, which has recently served the Institute of Judicial Engineering.
In order for studio teaching to take place in the new spaces, the area underwent minor construction modifications. The reconstruction costs amounted to 20 million crowns, and the relocation required 600,000 crowns, Kolčavová said. The university is also considering a more extensive reconstruction; however, everything is in the preparation phase and looking for funding options.
The first graduates of the master's program at the Faculty of Fine Arts graduated in 2000. As of this year, it has nearly a thousand graduates. It offers studies in graphic and product design, intermedia and digital creation, sculpture, painting, drawing, and graphics.
