Břeclav canceled the tender for the study on the use of the former sugar factory

Břeclav - The Břeclav town hall has canceled the tender it announced for the development of a study on the use of the former sugar factory's premises in the city. The applicants did not meet the conditions in the basic requirements of the tender, said the town hall's spokesperson Eliška Windová to ČTK. The tender, which had a deadline in the second half of September, was previously sharply criticized by the Czech Chamber of Architects (ČKA). The town hall stated that it plans to announce a new tender.
Problems with the use of the abandoned and deteriorating sugar factory premises have lasted for several years, and the town hall has still not managed to resolve them successfully. According to recent proposals, the site of the former sugar factory, covering an area of about 55,000 square meters, was partially intended for the creation of a place for leisure activities and partially for construction.
"We received four proposals. However, we ultimately did not open the envelopes at all, as they did not meet the basic requirements. Therefore, we decided to cancel the tender," said Břeclav's deputy mayor Luboš Krátký. According to Windová, the error was already in the labeling of the envelopes.
However, the town hall leadership does not want to leave the premises without modifications. "We have decided to announce a new tender. We would like to emphasize that this time it will not be an architectural competition, but only a proposal for the use of the premises," said Břeclav mayor Oldřich Ryšavý (ČSSD). He added that applicants will have a month to submit proposals.
The canceled tender, valued at 50,000 CZK, was recently sharply criticized by the ČKA. The deadline for processing the documentation was September 19, and according to the chamber, architects had only 11 days to prepare the study. The architects also had other objections. For example, they reportedly did not know the clear selection criteria, and there was no information about the composition of the jury that was to carry out the selection. The ČKA then declared the tender for the study of the sugar factory in Břeclav as an irregular architectural competition after allegedly unsuccessful negotiations with the town hall and urged its members not to participate.
