Karlovy Vary - The swimming pool of the Karlovy Vary Thermal Hotel is for sale. The hotel has posted a public competition for the sale of the hotel on its website. However, the pool will remain closed for technical reasons even after the winter shutdown, said Rudolf Mašata, who is in charge of the hotel, today to ČTK. The outdoor pool is one of the symbols of the spa town. However, its operation is unprofitable for the state-owned hotel. In January, during a visit from Finance Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO), the idea arose to dispose of it. The only criterion for the sale will be the purchase price. The minimum bidding price for the pool has not been set, only a deposit of one million crowns. In addition to the pool complex itself, the state is also selling the surrounding land. In recent years, Thermal has closed the outdoor pool to the public and guests during the winter. This year, however, it will not reopen even after the winter, according to Mašata, due to poor technical condition. The water remains in it, though. "First of all, for aesthetic reasons. People are accustomed to the view of the city over the pool. But it is also easier to sell a pool with water than without it," Mašata said. "The reasons are also technical; if the water were drained, the pool could crack," he added. The pool was built on a rock above the hotel in the 1970s. The pool is 50 meters long and 16 meters wide. Its depth ranges from one to 4.5 meters. One third of the water in the pool is mineral. The pool used to operate even during the winter, and its visitors could enjoy warm water even in freezing temperatures. Since 2012, it has been closed in winter due to cost-saving measures.
