Third experimental pavilion of students from the University of Stuttgart

At the Stuttgart Institute of Computer Design (ICD) and the Institute of Structural Design (ITKE), another experimental pavilion was completed in November. This time, students, led by professors Achim Menges and Jan Knippers, collaborated with biologists from the nearby University of Tübingen. The entire structure was crafted by a robot that used carbon and glass fibers during construction. The designers drew inspiration from the exoskeletons of crustaceans. The newly created composite attempts to outline another possibility for direction in architecture. By combining the method of generating work models, computer simulation, and subsequent robotic production, a highly advanced structure with a span of eight meters and a thickness of only four millimeters could be created.
