Bratislava - Slovaks have published various works of art, historical artifacts, and monuments from the repositories of local cultural institutions on the internet in digital form. On the occasion of today's launch of the project called Slovakiana, the Slovak Ministry of Culture stated that more than a million digitized cultural objects have been made available to the public so far. The collection of Slovakia's cultural heritage in electronic form is accessible on a special portal. Available items include paintings, books, or historical buildings such as castles and squares. However, the website has so far mostly published works that are no longer protected by copyright or whose availability is permitted by a licensing agreement. In the database, one can search by author or object title. The project also includes virtual tours of cultural monuments and other objects. Interested parties can share the published works in digital form and create their own collection. More objects are expected to be gradually added to the portal. A special body in the country has so far digitized four million various cultural objects. Slovak galleries and libraries have previously started digitizing their collections. For instance, the Slovak National Gallery published digital reproductions of artworks from selected galleries in Slovakia on the internet this year. However, the aforementioned Slovakiana project has made cultural items and objects in electronic form available in one place.
