With the beginning of the academic year, Czech universities have prepared a number of study trips abroad. Two schools, independently of each other and at almost identical times, decided to undertake a journey to explore modern Slovenian architecture.
Department of Architecture FS ČVUT in Prague will embark on a trip from September 26 to October 1, 2017, during which it will equally explore Slovenian and Austrian cities such as České Budějovice, Graz, Maribor, Celje, Velenje, Ljubljana, Bled, Kranjska Gora, Salzburg, and Linz.
Department of the History of Architecture FA VUT will delve into the works of South Slavs in the first week of October, from October 5 to 8, 2017, focusing thoroughly on the buildings of Plečnik, his students, and contemporaries up to the present day.
In the last century, Slovenians experienced a fate similar to ours. Both countries were part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Soviet Eastern Bloc. Compared to us, Slovenia has one-third the area and one-fifth the population. However, after the fall of the communist regime, Slovenians succeeded in establishing themselves as the dark horse of European architecture, a place we now visit for inspiration.
