New York - More than 11 and a half years after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the new skyscraper of the World Trade Center (One World Trade Center - OWTC) in New York is nearly complete. Special cranes today lifted the elongated spire to its summit, which will make the skyscraper a total of 541 meters tall and the highest building in the Western Hemisphere. The spire along with other components has not yet been fully attached to the main structure. It is expected to be complemented by a beacon in the final stages of construction. The OWTC, originally named the Freedom Tower, is one of four skyscrapers that are to be built around the foundations of the collapsed Twin Towers. There is currently a memorial for the 3,000 people who lost their lives in the location of the terrorist attack. The cost of the new construction, which is expected to be opened to the public next year, is estimated at more than three billion dollars (59 billion CZK). It is set to have 278,000 square meters of office space, an observation deck, shops, and restaurants.
