While other countries had their visions of national pavilions two years ago, Italy revealed the final design of its pavilion only this May. The pavilion, titled “City of Man”, consists of twenty different independent modules covering a total area of 3,600 square meters. The design comes from the Italian firm Iodice Architetti, which was inspired by the game of mikado. The twenty modules symbolically represent the twenty Italian regions, while the geometric diversity illustrates the topography of Italian cities. The modular construction allows for variability in the pavilion. The eighteen-meter-high square structure is divided into 14 irregular masses that together create an engaging mosaic, with narrow alleys leading to small squares, evoking the atmosphere of Italian historical centers in visitors. It is certainly worth noting that the next world exhibition Expo 2015 will take place in Milan, Italy.
