Berlin - The Czech studio Vyšehrad received an architectural award in Germany for the new atrium of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague. This was announced by the organizers of the award called Contractworld Award on their website. The Czech architects received the award in Hannover.
According to the newspaper Hannoversche Allgemeine, it is one of the most significant European honors for architects, and its holders will share a total of 60,000 euros (approximately 1.5 million CZK). The expert jury ranked Jiří Smolík and Zdeněk Rychtařík's Prague studio in first place in the category of renovation/reuse. Alongside, they selected the best achievements in the fields of offices and administrative buildings, hotels, spas, and dining facilities, as well as in the category of shops and exhibition spaces.
The Czech architectural studio covered the unused farmyard of the faculty and transformed it into a modern two-story multifunctional hall with new classrooms, workshops, and a relaxation area.
"What used to be an excess space has now become the center of the university. It fosters interaction among students and stimulates their creative activities,” the jury evaluated the new atrium of building D of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Czech Technical University. According to its website, the Vyšehrad studio has already received an award in the interiors category at the Grand Prix of Architects 2009 for it.
The Contractworld Award was presented for the eleventh time this year.
