The competition for the design of a new housing estate in Slaný was won by two teams, one of which will proceed

Slaný - The competition for the design of a new housing estate in the area of Na Dolíkách in Slaný was won by two teams, the Czech-German consortium Bauchplan with the Taktiky studio and the Czech-Dutch association Cityförster + atelier gram. The city leadership will now select one team that will work on detailed proposals for public spaces and commit to long-term cooperation. The start date for construction work has not yet been determined, and the design work will take at least another two to three years. This was stated today by the city development manager of Slaný, Magdaléna Stýblová.

Up to around 2,500 people could live in the new district. However, Slaný wants the new construction to meet a number of criteria, such as economic utilization of urban land, water and energy management sustainability, and modern solutions for mobility and vehicular traffic. Therefore, for the first time in its history, the city leadership decided to announce an urban planning competition. Over 30 participants applied for the first phase, including some from abroad, and five teams advanced to the second phase, which were evaluated anonymously by an expert jury.

"The jury appreciates the work with the landscape and the connection to the existing buildings of the surrounding estates in both winning proposals, as well as other elements that will significantly enhance the quality of life for residents in the western part of Slaný. At the same time, both proposals exhibited minor shortcomings that prevented a clear winner from being selected," said the jury chairman, architect Jan Šépka.

The two best teams will now develop a proposal for further designs and possible forms of collaboration. "Based on that, we will choose the one that guarantees a stable and long-term partnership for the coordinated development of the area in question," added the mayor of Slaný, Martin Hrabánek (ODS).

A primary school building is also planned to be added in Na Dolíkách, for which the leadership of Slaný will announce a separate tender for a design team in the future.
