Slaný - The design of a new housing estate in Slaný in the Kladno region is being proposed by five teams of architects. This is the first time the city is using an architectural competition to obtain proposals. The date for the start of construction has not yet been determined; it will depend on the market development according to the city. The housing estate is to be located in the west of the city and is tentatively named Nové Dolíky. It could accommodate up to 2,500 people, said the mayor of Slaný, Martin Hrabánek (ODS), at today’s press conference.
A total of 33 companies applied for the architectural competition, with one applicant failing to meet the submission criteria. The expert jury, including representatives from the city, selected five studios from the 32 portfolios to develop studies. "In December, we, as a jury, will evaluate the individual proposals, and subsequently select one design office," Hrabánek described the process. The designers will then prepare further documentation necessary for the construction preparation.
A portion of the land in the future district belongs to the city, while part belongs to private owners. It is an area between the Military Housing Estate and the Na Dolíkách housing estate, thus connecting the two estates. The expert jury will select the best proposals, assessing factors such as the extent of greenery, energy sustainability, parking, and other parameters to ensure that the housing estate serves the function of quality living.
Slaný currently has around 16,000 inhabitants. Should all current and planned development projects be realized, that number would rise to approximately 20,000. According to the mayor, a demographic study showed that if the city does not continue to develop, the average age of its inhabitants would begin to rise.
The city has also been entering into planning agreements with developers for several years, which include contributions for infrastructure. The funds can then be used, for example, to increase the capacity of the wastewater treatment plant and to ensure all other necessary infrastructure.
