Praha 6 announced a competition for the design of the Pod Marjánkou polyclinic

Prague – The Prague 6 district has announced a competition for the design of a new look for the Břevnov polyclinic Pod Marjánkou, which it manages. Participants in the competition should propose, among other things, a new design for the main building and the design of a new structure that will replace the current lower part of the polyclinic. The winning design should be known in 2022. The renovation of the polyclinic is estimated to cost about 500 million crowns excluding VAT. This is stated in the documents for the published contract.

The Břevnov polyclinic, which according to Prague 6 is in poor technical condition, will be renovated in phases. The reason is the commitment of the city hall from 2006, when the district took over the healthcare facility, that healthcare services will be continuously provided at the polyclinic. Therefore, initially, a new part of the polyclinic will be built on the site of the existing low building, where essential healthcare services currently located in the main building will move. Subsequently, the high-rise building will be reconstructed. Some healthcare services will move back from the extension to the main building after its renovation, supplemented by laboratories, rehabilitation, and other facilities. The low new building is expected to especially house doctors' offices.

Participants in the two-phase architectural-urban planning competition should propose both the arrangement of the polyclinic during the reconstruction and the final arrangement of the polyclinic in their designs. Competitors will need to design spaces for home care services in the main building of the polyclinic, address parking in the area, and insulation of the building. However, the city hall's condition is that the current silhouette and characteristic elements of the polyclinic's high-rise building, the design of which is the work of architect Richard Podzemný, must be preserved.

Interested parties wishing to participate in the competition can apply until October 8. From the submitted applications, a jury led by architect Petr Vávra will select up to ten participants who will be able to submit their competition proposal by February 2022. From these, the jury will preliminarily choose five finalists. The finalists will be able to submit their proposals in an extended form by May 26, 2022. The winner of the competition, who will receive a reward of 1.6 million crowns, will subsequently work on the project documentation for the completion and reconstruction.

Prague 6 has been preparing its largest investment project for several years, as previously stated by councilor of the sixth city district Eva Smutná (TOP 09), who is responsible for the strategic development of Prague 6. The estimated costs for the modifications to the Břevnov healthcare facility are 500 million crowns excluding VAT. The announced competition is expected to verify the anticipated costs. The city hall tentatively plans to start construction of the new building in 2025. According to information in the architectural competition’s tender, the reconstruction of the high-rise building of the Pod Marjánkou polyclinic should begin approximately two years later.

The polyclinic in Břevnov opened under the name Břevnov Polyclinic in 1963, when it was supposed to serve up to 45,000 residents in the given catchment area. Prague 6 has managed this healthcare facility since 2006.

Prague 6 is one of the largest city districts in Prague. It covers an area of 4,156 hectares and is home to over 100,000 people.
