The first year of the regional competition Mladoboleslavská cena za architekturu knows its winners. On Thursday, April 18, 2024, two main awards were presented during a celebratory evening, namely for the outpatient building of the Dr. Pírka Clinic in Mladá Boleslav and the Community Center Mírová in Mnichovo Hradiště. Awards for special achievements were given to the P+R parking garage U Stadionu, the riverside bike path, and the interior of the Pluhárna building (all in Mladá Boleslav), along with the public transport transfer terminal and the multipurpose facility Kafé Ořech (both in Mnichovo Hradiště). The awards ceremony was preceded, just like in the case of the sister Krkonošská cena za architekturu, by a debate among experts in the field of architecture and urban planning with representatives of local authorities and other organizations from the Mladoboleslav region. The main partner of the Mladoboleslavská cena za architekturu is the Škoda Auto Foundation, and the event took place under the auspices of the Governor of the Central Bohemian Region, Mgr. Petra Pecková. Other partners of the event include the Czech Chamber of Architects, Ilex design, Kámen Pečky, and Pluhárna.

On Thursday, April 18, 2024, the announcement of the first year of the Mladoboleslavská cena za architekturu took place in the premises of the Mladá Boleslav Pluhárna. “We entered Mladoboleslavsko after two years of a similar regional project, Krkonošská cena za architekturu, and I admit that we initially had concerns about the territory. In the end, we were positively surprised by the whole. There are places where the quality of construction is really high. Specifically, we refer to the achievements of the local government in Mnichovo Hradiště, which takes care of and invests in its public space. On the other hand, the rural areas still lag significantly, and the fact that this is the vicinity of Mladá Boleslav, an economically very strong region, has not yet translated here. The Mladoboleslavská cena za architekturu should be a motivation to improve the quality of construction across the region,” said Ing. arch. Josef Smutný, the organizer and father of the idea of the regional Mladoboleslavská cena as well as its two-year-older Krkonošská “sister.”
The first year of the Mladoboleslavská cena za architekturu was made possible thanks to the main partner, the Škoda Auto Foundation, which supported the award in the grant call "Culture has a Green Light." “We are honored to have been able to stand at the cradle of the Mladoboleslavská cena za architekturu (MBCA) and support it in its first steps, which culminated in the announcement of the winning projects of this year’s edition. A broad social debate about the shape of public space helps to develop it and increase the quality of life in the regions. MBCA is a great platform for such dialogue, among other reasons, because it is not a closed expert panel, but truly an inclusive public forum that naturally connects experts, local authorities, and the general public,” adds Michal Kadera, chairman of the foundation's board.
Other partners of the 1st year of the Mladoboleslavská cena za architekturu were the Czech Chamber of Architects, the Central Bohemian Region, Ilex design, and Kámen Pečky. The event took place under the auspices of the Governor of the Central Bohemian Region, Mgr. Petra Pecková.

The first year of the Mladoboleslavská cena za architekturu confirmed the quality of the building culture in the Mladoboleslav region. “It has been a long time since we awarded two main prizes in an architectural competition. The outpatient building of the Dr. Pírka Clinic is, however, an exceptional private investment, even in the private healthcare segment, it is a unique achievement. Such an approach to development, comprehensive, thoughtful, with a clear strategy that can be felt throughout the entire campus, deserves recognition. The Community Center Mírová in Mnichovo Hradiště is again an admirable achievement of the local government. A non-violent, non-aggressive building is embedded in a location that was previously an internal periphery of the city. It has brought new energy to the place, and the building and its surroundings are also ready for possible further development. Simply a community center as it should be, including solutions for interiors with the possibility of dividing the internal space and many storage systems,” commented Martin Kloda, chairman of the jury for the 1st year of the Mladoboleslavská cena za architekturu.
All finalist competition entries will be on display as part of a traveling exhibition launched during the celebratory evening. The first destination is the Pluhárna building itself in Mladá Boleslav, where photos and visualizations of the finalists will be exhibited until May 22, 2024, and additional destinations of the exhibition will be available on the competition website.
